The first recorded material released by Loch Lomond since the much-loved "Paper the Walls," "Night Bats" captures the Portland band at its most creative and focused. Coming off of national tours opening for the likes of the Decemberists and Blitzen Trapper, "Night Bats" features a directness and pop sensibility merely hinted at previously. The E.P. kicks off with "The Ghost of an Earthworm" and "Night Bats," two joyous and shimmering pop gems. Up next is "Spine (MMIX)," a fresh and dramatically different reading of an old fan favorite. Batting cleanup is an ethereal cover of the classic Bee Gees ballad "Holiday." Closing things out is "Wax & Wire," a dynamic sonic triumph. "Night Bats" is sure to delight both old and new fans of Loch Lomond.
